Don't Lose Yourself // Faithfully Honest

Do you ever think about how easy it is to get yourself lost in things, activities & people, so much to the point that you just somehow lose yourself? I've had a handful of instances where I was so caught up in the wrong things, investing time and energy into the wrong people and letting the trends of the world dictate what to think, say, and do. I did what felt good to me and didn't understand real growing pains. I ran to the wrongs things to satisfy a thirst I couldn't fully quench. I did everything I thought I wanted....notice "thought" was used in past tense. ;) It wasn't until I received different perspectives that I needed a change. It wasn't until I received God's perspective that I knew I was meant for something more.

Part of growing up is figuring out who you are, your morals, your beliefs, and finding the people and things that will help ground you, the real you. God has been so gracious to me, leading me in directions that ultimately led to him and to my true sense of self. It took a while to get there, but I think I'm finally on the right path. However, the journey still continues.

One of my favorite sections in the Bible is Mark 8:31-38. Jesus speaks of his prophecy to the disciples, that he will die, but rise again three days later. His disciple Peter couldn't bare to hear Jesus talk about him dying, so Peter started to reprimand him for it. But Jesus knew his disciples didn't understand what he was saying, so he goes on to say,

“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?

Have you lost yourself? Don't get so lost to the world that you disintegrate to the point of your own extinction. You're a one of a kind type of human here for a purpose. Hold onto your own essence and know that God has a plan for your life. I wish I could tell you what it is (Heck, I'm still trying to figure mine out). However, I can tell you that your purpose is good and something great. Take time to know the Lord; Get so lost in him that you find yourself.

Praying for you today, friend.
