Style Spotlight: Habebah Abdulrahim

Although I'm a fashion major, people tend to make the assumption that I'm automatically in fashion design. The sad truth is, I am not much of a drawer. I took a fashion sketching class at the Art Institute and I absolutely dreaded it. However, it was so much fun to see other people's work, other people who could actually draw and design. One lady who took that class with me was my friend, Habebah. Talented in art and design, Habebah aspires to be a fashion designer and to potentially open up her own e-tailer one day. Her ideas for her collection put me in awe because of her creative and innovative thinking. She also has impeccable style, always looking fashionable and elegant in whatever she wears. Whether it's a long flowy dress, a blouse and a skirt, or jeans and a sweater, I can honestly say that Habebah is one of the most stylish people I personally know.

Because of all this, she was one of the first people I thought about when I came up with the idea to have Style Spotlight on my blog. Now, I FINALLLLLLY get to say this (YAY!!!): With much excitement, I am thrilled to announce that this week's Style Spotlight post features the ever beautiful, Habebah Abdulrahim. :)

Full Name: Habebah Abdulrahim

Age: 29

City/State: Voorhees, New Jersey

Style Description:
My style is considered bohemian; however, I also tend to be drawn to classic styles like Chanel.

Who or what is your style inspiration?
I love to find things that are different. Different textures and silhouettes really grab my attention. I also am a sucker for rompers, bodysuits and almost anything that is sheer and flowing. I tend to like things that are over the top and really dressy as well. I’m always over dressed for the occasion.

What's a current trend in fashion that you really like?
The pastel trend is something I really like. I also like the ethnic print trend since I love bohemian style clothing. The knit trend is also appealing to me which is shocking because I‘m normally the type of woman who loves dressing for the warmer months. The knit trend is really evolving into my personal style when it comes to dressing for the colder months.

What's a staple piece you think every women should have in their closet?
A sexy pair a stilettos of at least 5 inches.

Do you have any rules you follow when you go shopping?
I don’t like window shopping. When I do shop, I am in and out. I know what I’m planning on buying and this helps me get out quicker. It’s not that I don’t like shopping, I’d just rather the whole store be shut down for me. Unfortunately at this point in time, I’m not that important for any store to be shut down for.

If you could pick your ultimate dream career, what would it be? Owning my own Resort wear company is my dream career which I am furiously working on daily.

Is there a designer/artist that really inspires you? I love Chanel on the classic end and I love Alexander McQueen/Sarah Burton due to the outlandish nature of his designs.

Finish the sentence: "Fashion is..."
My expression of self without spoken words.

If you could live in another era, which one would it be?
The baroque/rococo era because I love the opulence.

If you could live anywhere in the world with money not being an issue, where would you go?
Necker Island

What's something about yourself that no one would guess right away?
I love to cook. I am very shy, but very loyal and kind once you get to know me. If I was a dessert, I would be a crème brulee’. I look like I have a hard exterior, but once you crack my shell, I’m sweet to the last drop.

What's a quote you live by on the daily?
I have 2: “When you find your path, you must not be afraid. You need to have sufficient courage to make mistakes. Disappointments, defeat, and despair are the tools God uses to show us our way.” “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.”

How do you feel about people saying that art isn't a "proper" career?
That’s a horrible statement because there are so many careers out there that are art based; furthermore, I better the people who say they don’t have a creative bone in their body.

What do you want to accomplish in 2015?
Launch my website for Encompass Resort wear. My goal is to open approximately 18 months from graduation but I would love that to happen sooner.
