DIY Galentine's Day Cards & Envelopes // Creative Crafts & Fun

One of my goals this year was to get back into one of my creative loves: paper crafting. By no means am I a pro or specialize in this area, but creating handmade gifts with paper, glue, and stickers has always been fun for me!

With Valentine’s day coming up, I decided to create some DIY Galentine’s day cards for my friends that live in other states so I could send them some fun snail mail. When doing some research on what I could create, I found number 39 in this article from Country Living that highlighted a tutorial on making a bouquet of hearts. For the actual tutorial, see here!

I also wanted to take a stab at creating my own envelopes for the first time and found this fun tutorial on dosomethingworthwhile.com which gave me access to three printable envelope templates in various sizes.

After finding what I needed, I headed to my local Hobby Lobby here in Las Vegas and picked out a few things that would help me replicate this fun idea!

Here’s a breakdown of what supplies I used along with some directions on how I created these fun cards and envelopes.

What You’ll Need

  • Paper - I choose 12x12 inch red glitter card stock for the cards and 12x12 inch red heart-designed cardstock for my envelopes, both by The Paper Studio. I was able to create 6 one-page cards from the 12x12 red glitter card stock and create 1 envelope from the 12x12 red heart-designed cardstock.

  • Glue or double-sided tape - Depending on what your preference is, you can use liquid Elmer’s glue, Elmer’s glue stick, AD Tech’s fine line liquid glue, or Scotch tape’s double-sided tape. I used glue for the cards and used double-sided tape to hold together my envelopes.

  • Die-cut hearts - I purchased the “Valentine Paper Crafts” by Hobby Lobby, which came in a pack of 90 die-cut hearts in 3 different colors.

  • One green crayon and a pencil - I had a pencil lying around along with a pack of Crayola twistable crayons where I picked one of the shades of green. You will use these items to create the stems for your heart bouquet.

  • Other decorations - I picked up a 2-pack of washi tape made by “Valentine Paper Crafts” by Hobby Lobby. I also used Creatology’s extra fine glitter in gold and used my pack of “There’s no one else on earth like you” scripture cards (the Sadie Robertson pack) made by DaySpring.

Measurements

First, out of the envelope templates I had, I picked the 6 x 4 and 5/8 inches one, which I then discovered that my perfect card size would be 4 and 3/8 x 5 and 7/8 inches.

I created templates for myself on regular white paper so I could trace them onto my red glitter card stock for the actual cards and my heart-designed card stock for my envelopes.

When tracing for my cards on the red glitter card stock, I discovered I could make 4 cards at 4 x 5 and 7/8 inches. However, the other two cards would be just a bit slimmer, which worked out just fine.

Decorating

To decorate my cards with the bouquet, I found that the heart die cuts would not stay glued onto the red glitter card stock when pasted directly onto the glitter side, so I had to cut white sheets of regular print paper and use that as my foundation for my heart bouquet.

I played around with two different versions of the bouquet design. Ultimately, I went with the one on the left as I liked the gold glitter dot on the bouquet stem drawing, versus having the gold glitter dots on the four corners of the white paper.

I also had two different versions of the back side of the card. On the right, I tried to use the leftover scraps of the red glitter paper as a holder for the scripture cards. But the idea was a bit harder to execute multiple times, so i only did it for one card. Again, I went with the idea on the left and decided to use my red washi tape to hold the scripture cards instead.

Envelopes

After tracing, cutting, folding my cards, and securing the folds with double-sided tape, they were ready for packing! To seal the cards, I used my heart-designed washi tape which I thought was a nice crafty touch. If you prefer another idea, you can use glue, double-sided tape, or another holiday sticker of your choosing!

In total, it took me about 30 minutes to create and design one card, and fold one envelope. The 30 minutes also includes the drying time of the glue on the cards.

Out of all the things I made, I was really impressed with how the envelopes came out! The templates made it SO easy to trace and fold them into their shape.

I sent these off to my gal pals last week and some of them have already received their cards in the mail. I was so happy to hear how much they enjoyed getting snail mail for Galentine’s Day. 🥰

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Happy Galentine’s Day! ♥️
